Year 4-6 Home Learning

Kia ora whanau

Term 2 starts Wednesday 15th April.  It is really weird to be starting a term when we are not at school together.

We want the home learning that we provide to be fun, enjoyable and purposeful for everyone in the house.  We know our children will find the learning plan familiar as this is the way we have been working in class.  We understand the situation in each household is very different. These tasks are not compulsory but hopefully can provide some support for you and your child’s learning and wellbeing.

Below is a slideshow with all of the information you will need to start learning. If your child does have a device, they should log in to Google Classroom where they will find  information about our daily learning. If not, we encourage you to work with your child through the activities in this slideshow below in any order. You can email us pictures of their work from your phone if you would like feedback, or we can arrange time to give you a ring and talk through anything that may be challenging.

Some questions you might have

Do we need to do ‘school’ from 9am-3pm?
The tasks can be done in any order and at any time that suits.  The learning plan we have created is made to work on and offline, at home and at school over the whole of term 2.

So what do I need to do to be ready for Wednesday 15 April?
Each morning your child will have the opportunity to meet with their teacher and teacher aide through Zoom.  Our first meeting will be at 10am on Wednesday 15 April to help explain how to find everything you need. You should have recieved an email on Tuesday 14th April with the link for this.

In our first meeting we will show the students how to access the daily timetable. They will also have the opportunity to attend workshops through Zoom with the year 4-6 teachers twice a day – these workshops will target specific skills and learning areas. To find the codes for each Zoom meeting your child will need to look in the daily timetable in Google Classroom.

How will my child access their learning?
We will be using Google Classroom as the stage for our learning tasks. The learning tasks have been created by your child’s class teacher.  This way the learning will be familiar and meaningful to your child/ren.

My child doesn’t know their Google login information.
Please email us so we can let you know the login information for your child’s Google.

I have more than one child in the senior school.
Teachers have been working hard on creating a shared learning plan for Nikau, Kauri and Kahikatea.  If you have children across the senior classes we encourage them to work as a team and help each other out.

My child can’t make it to tomorrow’s Zoom meeting.
If your child doesn’t make it to the first Zoom meeting we can send instructions to you for accessing future Zoom meetings.
